Envisioning still life painting through coral reef glasses, this series of densely layered paintings brim with colour. Tangled chalky lines and vibrant gestural brushstrokes intermingle with carefully drawn botanicals, conjuring verdant earthly gardens and shimmering aquatic forests. Partially-formed silhouettes of floral arrangements float and flutter, seemingly submerged in an underwater world. Pale splotches in muted hues peak out from behind larger patches of rich colour that resemble land masses or suggest approximations of the darks and lights seen in a bouquet of flowers. Angular lines that float at the surface of the picture plane solidify the sense of looking through a depth of space, and create a dialogue between the surface and the underlying pictorial space.
